Portland Refugee Resettlement Group
The Portland Refugee Resettlement Group is a community-based team working to settle an Afghan family in the Portland/Middletown area. The family will arrive during the coming months with virtually no material possessions and in need of a great deal of community support.
As great as their initial needs are, their potential to enrich our community is even greater.
In partnership with IRIS (Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services), the Portland Refugee Resettlement Group is coordinating the support this family will require, including finding housing, clothing and home furnishings, interpretation and language services, health care, employment, financial, educational support, and cultural integration. All efforts work toward helping the family to become self-sufficient.
We are requesting support from our community to help make this family feel welcome, establish a new life, strengthen hope, and contribute to the vitality of our community. All donations go directly to supporting the family – there are no overhead or administrative costs, as this is a solely volunteer effort.
You may donate in one of 2 ways:
1. With a check made payable to First Congregational Church of Portland. Please indicate “Refugee Resettlement” in the memo line and mail to Portland Refugee Resettlement Group, C/O First Congregational Church 554 Main Street Portland, CT 06480.
2. Donate online here. Choose “Refugee Resettlement” under “Select Fund”.
There is still a need for volunteers on the Family Finance, Transportation and Fundraising committees. If you are interested in helping out on any of these committees or have additional questions, please contact us via our email pctrrg@gmail.com.
