Prayer Shawl Ministry
What is it? – The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a worldwide ecumenical movement of women’s groups, gathering to pray and knit for those in need and those celebrating life’s joys. As we create shawls for others, our handiwork becomes an expression of our love and of the loving care of the God who works through us.
When Do We Meet? – The women of our Prayer Shawl Ministry meet on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm in the church. When the weather is warm we bring a chair and knit outside near the church’s Memorial Garden. Please contact the church with any questions or for more information.
When did it begin at our church? – Our Prayer Shawl Ministry began following our Women’s Retreat held in March 2005. As we gathered at Wisdom House in Litchfield, CT, our guest speaker, Susan Jorgenson, introduced us to this meaningful ministry. Susan is co-author, along with Susan Izard, of the book, Knitting into the Mystery. From that inspiring weekend, we decided to share our gift of knitting by creating prayer shawls for those in need.
Who does our group consist of? – It is a group comprised of church members and friends. It is open to all who enjoy knitting and fellowship. With needles clicking, we weave together not just garments to warm the body, but also comfort and companionship to nurture the soul.
